The Kenilworth Chess Club blog has some links to YouTube vids of robotic, automated metal lathes showing their stuff by turning chess pieces.  Pretty neat to watch, actually.

Oooh, not sure.  So far, I watched the Rook one only.  (I'm not 'up' on metal-work, but have a hard time imagining how you could complete a Knight using only a lathe.)

It's not on a lathe, but one of the videos he links to does show a knight being done on a CNC Mill.

Very cool stuff. At one time I was using 3D engraver/router tables and a 3D CNC router. Not for anything as cool as this, though. My buddy's job was to do the design work and I'd translate it into the setup on the CNC router.
