How do tie-breaks work?
Should we start rating Bongcloud games? ELO would be easy to implement, but I could probably manage Glicko with some research into it. I'm thinking of a system where people send me there games, and I make the rating adjustments. I would write a program for it of course. I could publish the official rating list somewhere, I'm not sure where. Should all players start at 1200, like chess.com? I could also rate past games.
I was also wondering if anyone wanted to play Bongcloud live?
I will use a neustadl tiebreak first with a cumulative tiebreak if the neustadl fails to resolve the tie. If you can get bongcloud ratings, browni, that would be excellent. a start at 1200 would be good, let's keep it consistant with Chess.com. IT could be posted in the Bongcloud socitey group.
so there is already a bongcloud society group?
By the way i think you should apply the usual chess.com tiebreak (I think it's called sonnerbom-berger or something similar, that is sum of the scores of the beaten opponents plus half of the scores of the opponent you have drawn against) and i can calculate that for you if you want.
I have looked at the group, and i think we should definitely start using it more. Right now we are managing these tournaments on separate topics, and its kind of hard organizing a discussion, for example regarding the candidates cycle. I think we should all join that group and use it as the place where all the tournaments are managed. This way all the interested players would we easily involved in every discussion. Maybe i can start a new tournament where the recruiting will take place on the puplic forums but the tournament will then be held on the group page.
indeed it looks like it's called both sonneborn-berger and neustadl, the latter name being more correct since it refers to the actual inventor.

I won the other game versus ed_norton. only one game now needs to finish
i guess it's not going to end soon, but i'm probably losing an endgame. I will try not to contitue the game unnecessarily, right now however resigning would be premature.
I know that, i just meant that i will resign as soon as the defeat is clear instead of playing on for a few moves "just in case" since everyone is waiting for us.

On a sidenote, it has been proposed to extend the octagon to a four round tournament instead of the sceduled three. I personally do not have a problem with this, and will do so if I can get the other participants to agree with me.
(If anyone questions my pairings, I did do them by hand based on a slipshod understanding of the swiss system, and it is entirely possible I've made a mistake.)
I think the pairings are ok.
I was the one originally proposing an extension i think, but maybe it's better to be consistent and play 3 rounds. I have checked and 3 rounds are (rather logically) enough to usually produce an outright winnen in an 8 player swiss.
