I own one of these boards. It totally rocks man.  

Yeah, 4-player chess makes sense if they were teams, but 3 person seems to not fit. I tried to look at it, and with the options of pawns attacking in like 4 places at once makes them much stronger, but doesn't really make sense.

 4 player chess is more equal, and really sticks to the movements a lot better.
