Well, my very first post asking how members came up with their user names and what they meant received a fair amount of replies so I thought I'd give it another go. How about occupations...what types of jobs and work do we all do? I am a satellite tv/internet technician for Dishnetwork. How about you?

I'm a biology student at the University of Chicago. In the summer, I work in a tissue engineering lab at the University of Pittsburgh (check out this segment on Wired Science about what we do there).

I have 12-1/2 years experience as a Mechanical Engineer working on industrial steam, condensate, and compressed air systems. And some experience with bulk material handling systems such as pneumatic conveying lines and conveyor belts. I've been involved in every phase imaginable: sales (yes I was on the Dark Side), estimating, design, engineering, construction, start-up, commissioning , trouble-shooting, cussing, wailing, gnashing of teeth. You haven't lived until you've worked three 91-hour weeks in a row... on salary.

For more than 1/3 of that time, I worked as an over-the-phone Applications Engineer (read: high-level Tech Support) for a leading industrial steam products manufacturer. That was probably the most thankless job I've ever had (excluding landscaping). I gained a newfound appreciation for anyone who does technical support.

For the past three months I've been a Sales Engineer (yes, I fell to the Dark Side again) in the U.S. market for a German valve manufacturer. I work from home which is very nice, but the travel and the stress of making unreturned "cold calls" balances things out a bit.

I do research into the myriad numbers of ways that medical studies can be subverted to ensure a favorable result.  Well, favorable to those conducting the study, not so favorable for the general public.  To get the word out, and hopefully to help ensure that proper pressure is exerted on medical researchers to start living up to the public trust, I publish articles (and a book), teach, and give lectures on my research.

Lotus Notes Programmer.  My family thinks I know enough so they can come to me with questions like "I want a computer with a 2.8 megaherz hard drive and a modem...is that right?" but I cannot roll my eyes, for I was not born knowing computers either - everyone has to learn sometime.  However, it does make me think of the absolutely hilarious Onion article here.  Those of you that have attempted to teach older folks (e.g. moms and dads) about how to use a computer will get a huge kick out of this article.
