This is a difficult crossword, in my opinion. Your task is to fill in the spaces, using the clues provided, with the surnames of famous chess players of times gone by. The only clues you will be given are the years of the player's birth. Note that in some of the particularly early cases, the year might be out by one or two, but that doesn't ruin the puzzle, as the idea is to figure out the players by the sort of time they were around.
10 across is Anderssen.
13 across is Morphy.
-Edit-
Maybe 7 down is Blackburne? Makes sense to me.
Woe. your poinion is correct
Xylograph: Not only is blackburne too long for 7 down, it also clashes with your 10-across answer, Anderssen.
I'm stupid ><
OK, so how about Blackburne is 9 across and Zukertort is 7 down?
OK, so how about Blackburne is 9 down and Zukertort is 7 across?
Yeah I got messed up in my post lol, edited it now.. This whole thing is confusing for me :}
Well Blackburne is a stupid guy anyway, I don't wanna touch him. I do think zukertort is 7 down though.
I will help you out by saying that all three of your answers are correct. So far, the following have been solved:
10 Across: Anderssen
13 Across: Morphy
7 Down: Zukertort
Number 14 is Greco :P... thanks for your article on him Whipster
Yes, well done razorblade12... now four have been completed... can anyone use these to figure out more?!
15. Philidor
Another hit! Five done so far! All the words that link to 11-down have been solved... but does anyone know the player?!
1 Across is Boi.
Yes, well done crazychessplaya, and welcome to my crossword puzzle.
Six down, ten to go!
6 Across is Damiano
11 down, De La Bourdonnais?
8 Across is Amant
It is indeed. This is going to go really slowly if everyone answers one at a time... Nine to go, however.
9 Across is Staunton
Another one bites the dust! We're now at the halfway stage!
