    In round 9 of the 25th USSR championship at Riga in1958, David Bronstein took 18 minutes of thought before playing 1...c5 in response to Aivar Gipslis' move of 1.e4, Bronstein would often spend some 15-20 minutes on the 1st move similar to Lasker. Tal explained: "This was happening to him because, over the board, he always tried to find awesome moves.

    It is not good to take that much of time for the 1st move. Now in most of the tournments the time is 150 min for 40 moves.

    i wud spend time in the opening because it counts a lot when you got an advantage evn from the beginning of the game... probably, I'd spend 30 min for the opening...
