How could you possibly checkmate with a King and 1 Bishop, vs lone king? when a Bishop can only go on one color of square?

If you're talking about the original puzzle, he didn't mention the others side's material at all, making c the correct choice.

True, but the question was: "Is it possible to get a checkmate with a bishop and king?" He didn't even mention that the other side had a king. Make no assumptions when questions are phrased vaguely.
