I have two to post- and why

1.  Dr. Strangelove  (Peter Sellers)     - pre Monty Python

This was the first movie I had ever seen that really helped me think "out of the box"  Sellers was to film what Tal was to chess.

2.  Once Upon a Time in the West  (Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Jason Robards)

A true Spaghetti Western.  First seen with my father in 1970?  It was awesome watching my father explain why the best American Westerns were filmed in Italy and dubbed to English.  This movie along with the "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" (another spaghetti western) probably have the best "show down" scene's ever filmed.

Conan the Barbarian.  Because it showed me how years spent pushing the Wheel of Pain builds character and awesome pecs & stuff for when it's butt-kicking time.  Powerful lessons for life there.

Also, Office Space.  Different wheel of pain, but similar message.

When I saw the thread title, I was going to say Dr. Strangelove just to be a smart-aleck. I don't know that it changed my life in any way, but it was absolutely brilliant satire!

I think everything good starts with pain.  Otherwise we wouldn't know how good it is.

The first films that affected me were probably ones that I watched over and over as a kid. So it was Cannonball run 1&2, robo cop 1&2 and, of course, A nightmare on elm street part one, they were my biggies .

Elm street was Johnny Deep's first ever movie. I wonder what happened to that kid, I thought he had potential.

I've never seen a movie that really affected my life, and I'm a big fan of movies. I'm a big reader, too, and I can only think of one book that really affected my life. I find that events have a much greater impact on my life than information does.

If it made an impact please share it.  Something I have learned in my short time here at chess.com is that the players have much more to offer then playing chess.  Please note your book and event, I just had some movie memories today and based the post on that...

Pulp Fiction.  Gave me a heck of a lot more energy for a while...and a real keyed-in joie de vivre feeling.

"Fight Club"

More so because it struck a nerve with what I already thought. Are you defined by your "table from the Ikea catalogue" or do your actions define you? I have too many friends who think their phone, their camera or their t.v. defines who they are.

I am not sure how it happened but someone realized that is you play "Dark Side of the Moon" with the movie "Wizard of Oz" there are so many connections that it appears the album was written to the movie.

Originally enhanced in beta testing with a number of different substances this theory also holds up pretty well in sober tests also.

For some examples just google Wizard of Oz / Dark Side of the Moon or search on YouTube.com for segments of the movie with the album soundtrack.
