good puzzle! that mating pattern is very good to know...

I am just wondering why black didn't play 1.... Ne5 attacking White's Queen.  Now if White takes the Knight with 2. fxe5 or moves the queen out of attack then black mates with 2....Qe1+. Otherwise the game will go like:

2. Nxb4  Nxd7 3. Rxd7+ Kg8.

Black ends up being one peice down but at least it doesn't loose the game.  Did I miss anything? 

1. ... Ne5 2.Rd1     from this point the black knight can't move or eat the white queen because of open check. The gate was open for a check.

good game to know

After you have the knight in the way of putting the bishop in check, I would have moved the knight to where I could take the queen, because I probably would not have seen mate...not that it matters.
