Just my opponent, the board, and myself - nothing else.
My own little escape from reality :)

All too often, really crappy songs. Like "Knick Knack Paddywhack"...and "Seasons in the Sun"...I've had these things go through my head for hours in tournaments. It's like tinnitus with lyrics.
Chessbee
Chess takes over when I play, nothing else is important, only the game at hand. If I win everyone says "of course he won, hes the best in the school" if I lose then I become another woodpusher at the club.

The victory after the game.

haha, crappy songs, or good ones for that matter, dont leave easily during a game once they are in. They just go round and round, except, not the whole song, just the catchy bit that your subconscious has learnt off by heart. The "song" I quite often find i'm mentally singing along to is the ticking of the clock. Just "tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick..." and there's no point in trying to get rid of it. I think it helps me think anyway, and at least it's better than pop/indie music.

Are you sure it's not

We're all friends here, rich. It's okay, you can admit it...
Rael got me, oh well lol.
To provide more context for claypot's comment, from the game we (just) finished:
Rael: and the winning endgame goes to...Rael: a pot of clay!Rael: haha
claypot: thank you... thank you... Ever since I was a lump of clay, I had to overcome the fear that I might become an ashtray. But, I'm here to tell you, that if I can become a pot of clay, then dagnamit, anybody can!!
Rael: you were the famous clay pot made by Demi Moore in Ghost, weren't you?
claypot: she has very nice hands... very nice hands...
