Has any body notice that chess is use all the time as an analogy in different sports or in other areas. It seems when I am watching other sporting events they are always comparing to chess from Football, basketball, and even nascar. Yet, chess does not get the respect among in TV market. I was looking on ESPN website and it seems there a section for except chess. I just funny and interesting how chess is use all time and some cannot be seen on major TV channels.
Was watching a football game (American) recently, and the announcer compared one of the players to Aaron Nimzovitch. Refering to the the way Nimzo would jump up from the board, saying "Why must I lose to such idiots!"
Well, really the only time they do that is when they say, "Yep, it's a real chess game out there." Which means (roughly): "Yep, they're really being cagey and sneaky."
Because chess is has no excuses when lose like team sports and tennis players and coaches can blame teammates or refs. The sports played one vs one many excuse involved the playing conditions or the equipment like golf or bowling. I think in chess similar to boxing or MMA just you and your opponent, but there in no blood or excuse that you opponent is bigger stronger or faster.Chess does not expensive or special equipment to play. Chess is cheap to play and it not seasonal. Chess is best and beautiful game on the planet that never gets old.
because play chess is fun for me
If chess has no excuses why is it that whenever I win the opponent always claims his mouse slipped? :P
Because of the sound the pieces make when they hit the board.
Well, I've been thinking, why do we play chess?
For fun. That's the explanation that fits 99.9% of people who play chess.
b e c a u s e . . .
My grandfather taught me to play when I was about six or seven. I love chess ever since.
You cannot use mouse slip in OTB.
Boxing has refs and judges, most of whom are rarely unbiased.
MMA has the same problems. But furtunatly form them, they don't have the really big money involved in their matches as yet. So corruption is kept to a minimum for the time being.
You know not what you speak of. Sure, bowlers, tennis players, and golfers can blame equipment, conditions, or, weather, in the case of the latter two. But some chess players whine, also. They just have different excuses.
Two notable professionals in tennis and golf (Serena Williams and Sergio Garcia) have complained about the things you mention. It was not taken well by the public or their opponents, and, yes, they were called whiners.
And was there anything Bobby Fischer didn't blame for his loses?
This is my ponit chess players do have built in excuses sure they can whine, but a chess player blaming a lose because the weather. I do understand that some touranment conditions are not ideal..
Sitting on the board with a new opponent.Playing the first move and then Boom. The adrenaline flowing all over your body. You are alive. You are fighting.
The moments when @ 7-9th move you see in your head the outcome of the game so clear,so close. And then it comes step by step, right there.
For when, you have been mounting the pressure on your opponent, creating such a crazy position where he does not know what else to do and either move just makes it worse.
For the moments where loss came out of nowhere and you finally found a worthy opponent.
For those 3hs long games.
apotheosis (greek word.Search its meaning in ancient greek theater dramas)
Because the road has higher value than the end of it.
For the mental state you get while playing.
Because if you wanna get better @ chess you ll have to know yourself better. And change.
For winning (and that is placed last on purpose).
But,if i had to pick only 1 reason that would be the adrenaline and apotheosis feelings.
P.s:Who said i have to stick with the rules?;)
Chess : competition, game, science, and art.Competition when your using all the ressource of your mind to beat your opponent.Game when you push that f4 pawn in the King's gambit and you know there is no return. Or when you play this bishop sac you cannot fully calulate. You're pretty sure it's sound... Is it ? Or when you set this trap hoping your opponent will fall in it...Science, avoiding mistake, ever pursuing the best, most precise moveArt, looking at a sacrifice by Alekhine or an endgame by Capablanca and enjoying the pure beauty of chess. QuiteLife I cannot agree more with you !
