A game I didn't mess up

I've been playing a lot of live chess online lately. I prefer playing long games because I like to really think about my moves, and because I am not such an expert yet that I can very quickly determine advantages in a situation. There are few things more annoying than slowly developing a winning position only to hang a piece after a half hour of play and let everything fall to crap.

This was a game (one of the few) where I felt I held up my end the whole way and actually took advantage of a tactical opportunity when I saw it. I was a bit nervous starting out, as my opponent's ranking was over 200 points higher than mine, though I think I am a bit underranked at the moment. Please have a look at the game. As always, any analysis is greatly appreciated.

In your 16th move, i believe a better move should have been Bxa6.  Breaking his defence & forcing his king out.

However looking at your moves, it very good too.  So if you asked which move would i had made looking at the choice, the answer i would give is "i really dont know."

    WELL DONE!!!

Note: in my diagram, move no. 6 for black should be Ke8. 7. Qb8+ Qd8 (after that exchange queen, bishop & then castle & exchange pawn just in the diagram

The mistake of Ke6 is shown below

    6....Ke6, 7. Qc4+ Kxd6, 8 0-0-0 winning the Queen.

Thanks Tonydal, i actually missed that.

Thanks very much for your analysis. 16.Bxa6 certainly does force the issue, and looks to resolve to very winning position for black.

    21. Rc1! Good idea! Thanks :)

And 16... c6 does kill 16.Bxa6. I didn't notice the move in my analysis yesterday, just goes to show I have a lot to learn! Sometimes the most obvious things slip right by...

I am going to post a game for "analysis" soon that I just finished tonight, that was absolutely riddled with horrible oversights by both players. I am at a point with my chess playing right now where I can play a game very solidly for an hour, develop a big advantage, and then hang a rook and give it all up in a second. Hopefully this habit will cure itself with practice......
