Maybe you can look into 17. Qxg7
A game I just played - can't pull an attack off successfully
Thank you. Do you think that I should have played that? I was thinking that I missed something a bit later on, too.
yes i considered that and to be honest that would probably have been the best move, it was a relatively fast game we were playing though(15 mins) and I didn't want to exchange queens. Sometimes the position demands it tho I guess ..
I can't find anything that quick.
Like you wrote, you are stuck in your own attack. It looked promising but there were some chances for your opponent.
Do you have any advice for avoiding these kinds of positions in the future? Like it's probably the case that when I bring up all of my pieces it leaves my own king quite vulnerable.

Yeah, the position demanded it here. Even if you didn't see the checkmate, you had to know your opponent's attack was dangerous. And you were up a rook, so you shouldn't have been afraid to exchange - you're likely going to win that endgame.
I know that I made a lot of mistakes in this game, for example failing to see the checkmate being too busy with my attack, that I didnn't notice my opponent was attacking as well!
YThis seems to happen in a lot of my games, I get really close to checkmating the other person but yet I can't seem to pull it off. I know I made some blunders but I think I could have won this game and I think in this one it's a case of blunders but also of me having missed a really good move, and I'm not sure what that move was.
