A Knight for Central Pawns

I reached a point in this game where I had to figure out if I should sacrifice my Knight to destroy the central pawns and open the game.  It took me forever to work up the courage.  While my decision may have been correct, my plan was wrong.  I should never have let my opponent castle long and at that point I think Black was better.

After black got his king to relative safety,

I just tried to keep the game sharp in the hopes of a small crack.  My opponent eventually played a very safe looking pawn move that turned the match in my favor.  (I didn't see why until two moves later).

Anyway, I have read a number of places that folks do not generally recommend giving up a knight for three pawns.  I think, however, that if I had played a bit more accurately, this game would provide a nice illustration of when that strategy would work.  In my view, the general features that made it workable were that I had a nice lead in development, black's king was still in the open, his pieces disorganized, and I was giving up the knight for central pawns.

    Comments welcomed.

That was one HELL of an attack.  I think it was played very well - probably much better than I could have, that's for sure!  Nice job!
