Ok, so, I'm thinking: 'everybody's into these "analysis engines" and "pgn files" these days. I'd like to "analyze" my "pgns" with a [free] "engine".'
how?
I've tried different downloads but I always get stuck on a few issues:
Which engine is the easiest engine to use?
How do I open a pgn file? (Are they normal opened by engines?)
What sorts of things can you learn from the analysis given by such engines?
Can anyone help me out?
I'd like to know,too
thanks a lot
Oh dear.... another problem...
For some stupid reason when I go to select "Analysis Mode" it's greyed out. Why?
EDIT: Problem solved. Ok new question I'm in Winboard and in the Engine Output window, it gives a whole bunch of possible moves in lines like this:
16 +0.24 13.3M 2:55.95 Bd3 Be7 O-O O-O Bd2 a6 Qb3 b5 a4 bxa4 15 +0.25 6.3M 1:21.91 Bd3 Be7 O-O O-O Bd2 a6 Qb3 b5 a4 bxa4 14 +0.25 3.4M 0:44.47 Bd3 Be7 O-O O-O Bd2 a6 Qb3 b5 a4 bxa4 13 +0.25 1.6M 0:21.30 Bd3 Bd6 O-O O-O Bd2 a6 Qb3 Rb8 e4 dxe4 12 +0.26 983915 0:12.77 Bd3 Bd6 O-O O-O Bd2 a6 Rc1 Qe7 h3 11 +0.19 401943 0:05.34 Bd3 Bd6 O-O O-O Bd2 a6 Rc1 b5 10 +0.19 153444 0:02.14 Bd3 Bd6 O-O O-O Bd2 a6 Qb3 9 +0.21 65445 0:00.95 Bd3 Bd6 Nb5 Be7 O-O a6 8 +0.20 21285 0:00.31 Bd3 Bd6 Nb5 Be7 O-O 7 +0.20 3272 0:00.05 Bd3 Bd6 Nb5 Be7 O-O 6 +0.20 2497 0:00.05 Bd3 Bd6 Nb5 Be7 O-O 5 +0.22 2099 0:00.03 Bd3 Bd6 Nb5 Be7 O-O 4 +0.18 640 0:00.02 Bd3 Bd6 Nb5 Be7 O-O 3 +0.20 421 0:00.02 Bd3 Bd6 Nb5 Be7 O-O 3 +0.17 256 0:00.02 Bd2 Bd6
What do those columns mean?
So I guess the most recent (top) row is the best line?
Thanks a lot De-Lar! You've been a great help.
