Anti-Sicilian

e4 is a good move which aims to control the centre but, at times I am not able to combat Sicilian Defense(c5).

Is there any other alternative against Sicilian except following the mainlines?

Thank you very much for helping me out.

I dont know but 2.d4 and smith morra gambit seemed to be working for me well at this stage,I have defeated many higher rated players but also lost some games.

So it might be useful to you too as in it, your opponent would be defending and you would be attacking, though I must add that you must be good at tactics to punish your opponents bad moves.

In any case, you will learn many different tactical themes by this opening.

I do recommend you to try different openings against sicillian and see which works best for you.Good Luck!

The Old Sicilian is the most effective anti-sicilian, yet it is complicated.. I recommend the Morra Gambit (Smith-morra gambit) which is

    1. e4 c5 2. d4!?

Yes, smith-morra is really fun gambit to use against sicilian, with lots of traps and tricks that white player can use.It can be deadly against unprepared opponent.

If you are not into gambits and all attack play, 2.c3 can be an interesting response to sicilian.

    There are a few alternatives.

The 3. Bb5 alternatives, Rossolimi or Moscow (Depending on what the opponent plays I think? Or it mighst just be two different names for the same opening, wouldn't be the first time.)

Then there is the closed Sicillian, 2. Nc3

    The Alapin 2.c3

And then there is the smith morra gambit 2. d4.

I absolutely love it when Black plays the Sicilian. Look up things like the Levenfish attack. I absolutely love the f4 lever in most Sicilian games.

I usually do something like this. Against my constant chess buddy, our games usually go the route of something like,

    1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 (if 5... g6, I am more than happy to move 6 f3 or 6 f4. White just has to follow up with  something like Bf4, Be3, Qd2, O-O-O, and then you just do your kingside pawn storm)

    I am currently playing another game with him, and our game is contuing 5... a6  6 Bg5 d6 7 Bf4 Nc6 8 f4 Be7 9 a3 (preparing for 10 Qd3, so that Nb4 won't be an annoyance).
