Been beaten twice in quick succession by same line...help

Looking for a bit of help if that's ok. I started two recent games with the King's Indian Attack and both times opened myself up to the above. And twice I've been decimated.

In the first game I tried moving my rook over to e1 but the bishop smashed through while in the second game I moved my king over but suffered the same results.

Need I have panicked so much?

Well, your king and rook are the two pieces defending f2. He is attacking it twice. Regardless of whether you should be panicking, moving either doesn't seem logical :-)

In general you needn't fear an exchange like Nxf2 Rxf2 Bxf2+ Kxf2. His two developed pieces are worth more than your rook and pawn. He's more likely to go for f7-f5 though.

I don't really know what I'd play as White, these KIA positions always look very static to me, I'd rather have Black.

Yea kwaloffer is correct you dont need to panic about it at all infact Ng4 isn't a good move for black!

You can simply play h3 forcing the Knight to retreat or play Nxf2 Rxf2 Bxf2 Kxf2 which isn't good for black i.e giving up two minor pieces for a Rook and a pawn.

Wonderful.

Thanks very much to all three of you.

I see now that I panicked and didn't think the moves through. You are absolutely right.

Cheers
