Heya, this is no interesting game or whatsoever, but according to the computer analysis it was better to take with the d pawn than with the b pawn. Does anyone know the purpose of capturing away from the center?

I think it is to leave options for casteling long and short open. In case Queens remain on the board. if you still had the e pawns on the board then taking towards the center is the best move.

The simple answer is development. The a3 diagonal is pretty useless. Now you must spend another two moves before you can even move your bishop along the c1 h6 diagonal, all because of your lousey Nd3 move.

So that White can develop his queen bishop.

Yea, capturing with the d pawn still allows you control of the important b4 square, while keeping a safe pawn shelter for your king (should you go 0-0) and being able to deploy the black bishop quickly.
