It all depends on weather the player would like to continue, even without a Queen.

No he shouldn't have resigned earlier when there was plenty of time for you to make mistakes just like he did.

A queen for a knight with absolutely no threats, I would have resigned assuming that you weren't under terrible time trouble.

just remember, you never "have" to resign.
