This is the first time I have uploaded a game onto a forum...I apologise for any errors.

Anyway, please tell me if this game could have been won.

Black could have won if he played 39...dxe5 instead of ...Kxe5

er...franknstein, white would have had a passed pawn.

Move 32 instead of Kf6, the pawn is teh better option. Still a tight finish never the less :-)

Wow, that is the first time I have seen a pawn endgame with so many pawns. Anyway, 39. e5 wasn't really losing White's advantage because it was the only reasonable move, leading to draw. Any other move would have lost for white as black would force away the white king and take the pawns.

    tonydal.  I think you are right but you have to be ultra-careful.  After 32. g5 hxg5 33. e5 dxe5 34. Kf2 is slightly imperfect.  Following your plan, 34. .... g4 35. Ke3 g5 36. Kd3? g6! 37. Ke4 Kf6 and now white can't get through; for ex. 38. d6 Ke6 39. d7 Kxd7 40. Kxe5 Ke7! and the triple pawns are actually worth something!

Instead white should play 36. Ke4! as quick as possible to keep the triple pawns from making a side-wise wall.  Better yet, white should 34. g4! at which point white gains the insurance policy of h3 later on, pretty much garaunteeing victory.

    Some sample lines:

    34. .... e4 35. Kf2 Kf6 36. Ke3 Ke5 37. h3! and white wins

    34. ....Ke7 35. Ke2 Kd7 36. Ke3 Ke7 37. Ke4 Kd6 38. h3! and again white wins

wow, there seem to be other solutions in here, and those favour white!

anyway, is there any possible way, that in the middle game or endgame, i as black could have made a better move which would have changed the result of the game?

By the 14th move , white could do Bd5+ instead of 0-0 ... also move 15. Rfd1 is not so strong, Rfe1 would be better. I think that white could win this game if he played it right!

hmm true that. But I think my opponent wanted to get a full attack in the centre with the rook and the queen on the d rank, which of course, never happened. The centre remained closed throughout the game, because I chose to attack the kingside, where the king was.

Anyway, are there any better moves for black?

I would do Nf6 instead of e4 , but that is very personal... but at the 9th move black is 1 pawn behind. So in the beginning black was behind... I think a draw is a win for black, he played wel the second part of the game!

Thanks! I already knew that since I was a pawn behind, I had to somehow get the pawns into a locked position, and my opponent fell for it.

The pawn loss was a mistake, so for me, I would be VERY glad for a draw.

Again, can someone please tell me if there are any good moves which I should have done, especially the opening?
