Any help would be appreciated. Be brutal, I'm here to LEARN! Thanks for your time and expertise.
troll .. this is hilarious...
free 0-0 & your just incase pawn push was too good
You just have rust. You went though the motions, but your "look out for the forcing move / tactical threat" isn't automatic like people who play a lot. I'm sure you'll get back into it in no time :)
f5 was the right kind of idea, wanting to make your attack mean something (even if it doesn't quite work yet ;) But then after 24.Qe3 you could have played 24...f4 and your attack is looking very dangerous to me. For example Qa7+ just go Kf6 (remember if you can ignore an attack, then don't let it bother you!) And now you have things like Bxh3, f3, maybe even swinging your queen over. I think this was your best shot.
On a serious note.. the following is whats my analysis..
1. To begin with, I think the problem was you did not stick to your own plan (and may be u had none). This is because you only said 7. ..G6 was a tempo move coz it prepares to fianchetto and castel short.. So far its all great moves by you.. But right there, you forget your own plan.. if you did not fianchetto then you are wasting your earned tempi...... And ofcourse as you rightly said Qc7 was needless & a serious mistake if not a blunder.
2. And after 10.Nxd5, QC6 move does not seem to have any plans (rather, I would be afraid to take my qeen out (same diagnoal of the king) when my center is weak... retreating the queen should have been played (at least to guard the hole in f6 .... ( remember, when you play g6.. its important to keep the bishop in the long dark diagnal coz those squares become very week without the bishop taking control of it..) . you surely felt it in the game.
3. 11 Nf6.. your king is too brave to attack the knight... try to think atleast one or two steps ahead ( dont take your king out to a teritory where you have less control. ( try to visualize the side of the board bishops : whites both bishops, queen, pawn everything active on the area where your king is heading.....
4. Till move 20 white could have done much better.. but you have played well to improve your chances.... however again you did not take any initiative. 21.. f5 is a mistake.. not only it further weakens your kingside and your light sqr bishop has no more preseusre against the white king.... (may be you were probably thinking of a pawn trade .. either white will take or you will take.. and thus atleast one white colored diagnal will open for you .... But you ruled out the possibility of other moves.. remember diagnals & files open not only for you it opens for your opponent too... and if your oponent is positionally dominating then they will benefit from those open routes... I think your best chance was a Bishop sacrifise ( or something agresive instead of f5..
Something like the following might have been better.. may be i will be happy with a draw in this situation...
:) non the less.. good that you are back playing chess..surely few games will refresh your memory & improve your chess...
note: i verified my comments using houdini 2.0_64_bit I analysis my own games the same way...
