Hi all
Just wanted to share a game I just played with you all. I noticed that in gambit lines, failure to take the best defence results in a loss. Well, I think it is fair to turn that on it's head and say, failure to make the strongest threats in a gambit line usually forfits all benfits from the gambit.
Comments on the follwing game are welcome!
Puzzle
I think in your puzzle 1. Ne5 and black can't stop mate w/ 2. Qh8
hmm, thank you smartens! That looks to be correct. I missed that because the knight on c6 had only just moved and I didn't update the changes that that made in my head! Thanks very much for pointing that one out!
Good game though.
Perhaps I should just get rid of the puzzle then lol xD. Whenever I seem to do something nice in a game there always seems to be an easier and simpler way...
Q: why can't puzzles have alternate solutions like in chess mentor :P
...
Yes please. This would be a great improvement to the puzzle diagrams.
Yes I agree. Ne5 is clearly a quicker way to mate, and I'm sorry to all those people who will now get mad when they try Ne5 when I have f6 as the best move :(.
There is something nicer about f6 in the way that it forces black to make a move to avoid mate - its like a tease. Ne5 and black can make any move and is mated, f6 and it looks like there is still hope... I dunno, maybe I'm slightly biased :P
A very fun puzzle, I enjoyed it. (Mainly because I actually got it!)
