Ouch, guess I need to give up the visualization of this one if I want to get it right. :-).  Perhaps just 37. Qc3 trying for a draw.

I favor 1. b6, with the threat of the Backrate mate, as 1. b6  a7xb6 , blocks the King's escape route.

37. Qc3 doesn't seem like the best option due to the exposed white king. I think she needs to get back to defending.

37. Qc3 is met with 37. ... Qg3

37. Qc3 Qg3 38. Qc7+ Qxc7 39. bxc7+ Kxc7 40. Re1 where I don't think black can defend the e-pawn.

Nice play. I was just thinking white needs to trade off queens. The black king will probably head towards the center to hold off the advancement of those white pawns. It does look to be about equal at this point.

Instead of 37. ... Qg3, what if 37. ... Rc8?

This is how it looks now:

If white takes the e-pawn, the black rook will take position on the 2nd row with another mate threat.

I believe the game is over. This is just analyzing as an afterthought. Smile

It's a tough position. 37. ... Rc8 38. Qd3 Qg3 looks good for black so white might have to tempt fate with 38. Qxe3 Rc2 39. Qg1.  I'm not sure if that holds. In any case, 30. b6 doesn't outright lose, but if white is going to try to hold on for a draw 30. Qxe3 might be safer.

I saw 39. Qg1 but missed Qg8+ After further analysis, white looks better here.

So 37. ... Qg3 is the better choice for black.

Back to the original question. 30. ... Qxe3 for the draw, otherwise b6 would be the better choice to attempt a win.

This was fun! Smile

33. ... Rfg8 34. Rf3 Qg7 35. Qc7+ looks like it will leave white with an extra piece. 34. ... Qxd6 35. Rc1 renews some backrank threats.

I removed that post after seeing the flaw. Didn't think anybody read it so quickly. It was a good concept but unable to put it in action.

I can't tell, isn't this game going on now? Telling would be cheating...

There is no way for black to save the game. The threats on the white King can all be dealt with and white will have an easy game.

First of all, after 30.Qxe3 fxe3  31.Rxf8+ Kc7, 32.Rc8+ seems like a blunder to me. It gives black chances, when 32.e5 seems like a clear win for white.

After 30.b6 Rxg2  31.Kh1 a6, 32.Qc3 has to be the best move. This is the strongest line I can come up with for white. I think black's best response would be 32...Qd8.

Loomis and Sunshiny,

33.Rxe3 looked like a good idea but it does not seem like it. My original idea, and one that I think looks a lot better for white is 33.Rxf4. The best move I can come up with is 33...Rfg8, which does not look like enough. See what you think of this line:

White has a clear advantage. I think black is worse off if he does not make the trades. Like I said, I think 32...Qd8 is the best move for black. However, I think that white has a win in any line.
