I started playing blitz recently and realised that without the analysis board, I wouldn't even be above 1200. Here I'm 1214 playing a 1417 in 15 10. And no, I was way ahead in time.

Any advice on improving my vision?

30... Qd1+ 31. Rxd1 Rxd1#

But I see it was made later.

Who were you in this game?

24. Bxb6 wins the N and then the e3 pawn.  If cxb6, Rac1+ wins the R or is otherwise fatal.

Obviously, I was the guy that lost, otherwise this would be in the showcase section.

Umm, yeah... except that 24... exf2+ loses the queen??

30... Qd1+?? drops the black queen and rook, since the rook on d6 is pinned to the king.

Now lets hear from someone with BETTER tactical vision than mine, LOL.

I won't comment on the game as it is riddled with tactical mistakes (as blitz games are wont to do), not just at the end.

Advice to improve? First, do tactical exercises - a good point to start is the emrald chess server at http://chess.emrald.net

My rating there is rubbish, although I think I'm not even bad at tactics, just slow. That brings me to my second piece of advice. Don't let the adrenaline rush of blitz get to you. 15/10 is actually pretty slow. Use that time! You can easily use 20-30s per move and still have enough for the game (just do a bit of math before each game to get an idea of how fast you should play). That's enough to spot simple tactics - and if you're improving, also the more hidden tactics.

Good luck :)

You are correct.  I was trying to help, at your request, and you decide to be rude?

That was meant to be a joke, I'm sorry if you find it offensive. I probably should have made the humor more clearer.

I just thought it's funny how the first two postrers missed something that I caught on even during the game.

6 e4?? This move just loses a pawn. Black could just have captured with 6..dxe4 You should still be developing here with Nf3 or Bd3

8 d5?? another pawn sac. d4 is guarded by 3 times. Black could have played 9...Nxd5 and after 10.Bxg7 Rg8 black gains a file and trade a side pawn for a central one.

15..Nb6 a major blunder by black. 16 Rc1 wins a pawn after 16..Rd3 (anything else and white play Bxb6 and win a piece) 17 Qxf7

20..e3 another big blunder by black.that you capitalize on correctly.

24 fxe3 would have won you the black queen

25 a5? 25 Rd1 or Rb1 would have been alot better here. You have a mate threat here, use it.

You had a mate threat for very long that you never used and eventually the game slipped out of your hands. I don't think there's anything wrong with your board vision, you had a okay mid game for a blitz game. Maybe you just need to get a bit more comfortable with endgames.

This isn't actually the worst game I played in blitz, just the most recent one. The worst ones are those where I leave my queen en prise, miss the fact my opponent leaves a piece en prise or not see a mating threat until I'm surprised by a checkmate. That's why I'm pretty certain it's my vision that is impared.

Here's a demonstration of that, and this is a real game

The question however does remain, are you ahead on time in these games? If so, you should just use more time to check these things.

I'm not sure it is your vision.

Amazingly, yes. I always seem to be up on time when I lose, and a lot of the times I win I'm down on time. I think you may be on to something

30. Qh3?? You seemed reluctant to trade queens even when u were up 1 pawn and a bishop.

Trading pieces usually favors the side with more material.
