It was the second round of the brantford club championship, i wan angry that i lost a drawish position because i played a serious mistake near the end but now was my chance to redeem myself I was playing the third strongest player, an 1879 named John Vlasov, he used to be a 2031 and he is easily 2200 strength in middle games and endgames, but he has very limited opening knowledge so I thought if I had any chance at all I would need to get some sort of advantage in the opening.

Here is the game: He was a bit tired, but I still played great, watch as I crush an A class player in 23 moves!

open the movelist for a few sidelines...

I was happy with my play in this game, but i'm sure i made plenty of mistakes.

The only thing is you cannot reward yourself a double exclamation for that rook move.  I mean you can, but it isn't a double exclamation, because it is the obvious move.

I think you play a fine game.  However, to call him a easily 2300 rated player is really silly because he didn't even show a glimmer of his meager 1800 rating...evidenced by you destroying him in 23 moves.  If he were a 2300 player he should be able to give you knight odds and still wipe the floor with you.

Nice game, well played...Just try to stick to the facts instead of hyping yourself

i never said he was 2300 but his middlegames and endgames were amazing when he played from an opening he knew because he knew the proper strategy coming from his main openings, since I played an opening he didn't know, he played not very well at all.

In the first round he crushed the 2nd strongest player of the club Rob Gashgarian(1985) becuase it was an opening he knew and knew what are common middlegames from the opening. I'm not trying to hype myself up...I just liked the game. I also posted my first game when I lose to an 1811 named Kari Nurmi

Immortalgamer, you are a jerk, the guy was happy about his win and you are minimizing his accomplishment--if he took the time to post about it, he was pretty proud of what he had done--that last rook move may not be so obvious to a 1400 player, I think he actually made some moves above his level even though his opponent may have had moments of not.  He still turned it into a win and quite possibly his opponent took him for granted.  No matter he managed to take his game seriously and win.  Congrats on your game by the way.

Not too argue too heavily with your comment immortalgamer, but doesn't it amaze you that someone rated 1400 (I'll point out 2000 on chess.com) was able to play so accurately, without ever leaving any significant weaknesses in his own camp?  It almost struck me as Karpov-ish :P.

In my annotations I also chose (after a good 5 minutes thought) to keep Adam's !! as the finishing move.  The move is excellent, the move is not all that easy to see coming from a distance, and the move is quite aesthetically pleasing (this being the reason for that second exclam).  Perhaps this is just a matter of opinion.

And yes, you're right.  His opponent probably does play at an 1800 level (and not a meager one by any standpoint) but no more.  Adam crushed him far too quickly.

Again, congrats on an excellent game Adam, you're becoming a stronger player by the week.

see I knew in the long run he would probably grind me down and win, he is like that in middle games and endgames so you guys didn't get to see him play that well, but when he does he is really strong.

i really like that e4 push when he played f5 that is really interesting, thanks for that analyze Matt.

No problem man. ... just make sure you check everything I ever say with an engine because I miss stuff all the time in complicated positions like that.

I dont like e4 that much, I would value the line of sight of those bishops more.. what do u think?

that was a great finish by the way

the sight of my white squared bishop is important but that pawn cramps his position and I can most likely win a pawn, and my bishop can move around and find a new placement anyways.

In all practicality the bishop had no useful scope beyond f3 (the furthest reaching square of the e4 pawn) ... and so the bishops role changes from attacker to overprotector (read My System by Nimzovich if you're totally lost) and black should win a pawn or two (and with it the game.)

Positionally the concept is quite sound... does it work out tactically?... Yeah I think so.

Yes that does amaze me.  Playing way beyond what his rating would suggest. I thought he played amazing, but giving the caveat before hand of how great this guy was seemed a little bit ego stroking and what is the point of this?  I guess I like players to give an analysis of their best games rather than just post them.  However, I told him he played great in my post original post.

It is to bad the tournament he is playing in doesn't post the games online

The point is that 2200 players don't need to be familiar with the type of middlegame and STILL they find most of the right moves.

Edit: that said, the typical 1400 would have played more useless moves and far fewer accurate moves :-)

quick question...

after 14.Ne4 Nxe4 15.Qxe4 Bd6, wouldn't Bd3 be a better move?

In my opinion...

14.Ne4 Nxe4 15.Qxe4 Bd6 16. Bd3!? g6, and only then do white push h4...17.h4 c5 18.Qg4 when white may have a tiny chance of an attack against the black king.

Or 16...Bxh2+!? 17.Kh1 g6 18.g3 Bxg3 19.fxg3 Qxg3 when its 3 pawns against a bishop - which will churn out quite an exciting game...
