Well lets see. 23...Rd2 you "sac" a Rook or at least expose it to 'obvious' capture, and leave a Bb7 hanging as well. Aka a passive "sac". AND if he tries to save with 24.Rf2 he still gets mated after 24...Bxf3! (once again ignoring material concerns)~ appears, even if he tries to wiggle with 25.Rh2!? or Rg2. Yeah, I'll agree with you on the double exclaim. :)  Well done Adam~! And I think you explained Very Well what happened. I think your pregame plan was right on too. And that being proud of the game and a bit of a boast is well deserved!

( Not that I think you are boasting when you say he may play like a Master in the later stages. I know EXACTLY what you mean. My FM friend below has exactly the same demographic of being several hundred points better as the game goes on. And plays endgames with Anyone. I know others like that)

It Does Happen, even at higher levels than that, even the highest levels even WC(Karpov, others) . People "get stuck" in the opening or coming out of a bad one, if perhaps a bit unfamiliar & are not being alert. I had exactly the same experience in 14 moves vs a player who was 2385. And he had the same experience vs a GM. :))

Nice game.  He may have looked at the rating difference and thought he could wipe you off the board, but it turned out otherwise.  As someone who has been upset by "weaker" players, I can confirm that nothing is worse than when a "weak" player plays strong moves!!

Dr. Tarrasch said, "It is not enough to be a good player; you must also play well."
