Here is a game that I recently played on chess.com. A USCF rated master at my local chess club said I could now retire from chess. He said the game was amazing. He has a data base of millions of games and only one similar..but not as nice. What do you think?

Enough with the ego -- I can guarantee you that master has not reviewed the millions of games in his database, and therefore could not know how many there are that are similar

^ Although some databases will allow you to search for particular aspects of a position (e.g. particular material imbalances and such).

I love games where the pawns do all the heavy haulin'. The pawn wall after move 4 would have been enough to scare the crap outta me.

Your opponent handed you a crushing attacking position before move 10 so I have to lol at this statement because either you're lying or he was drunk.  You opponent missed a few tactics and collapsed.  It's standard looking and one sided games are dull... I mean unless 1-2 move tactics are what makes a game "amazing" because this game offers little else.

Don't get me wrong, it would be a fun blitz game to play because the moves would come so easily, but in a chess sense an amazing game this is not.

It is kind of a clever ending.

you played a nice game, so you can retire now.. besides chess there are many things to learn; like modesty and the location of the caps lock key?

Well to me, other than just looking bad, 9.c5 says to black "I'm one hell of a defender, so bring it on" which of course moves 14 and 15 disprove completely.

Likewise moves 11 and 12 for white look artificial and at least on the surface seem to slow white down (a4 blocks the queen, and Bb2 blocks the b file).  I don't know if white can find active play on move 11, but I feel like it's already a critical position and am looking at pawn sac ideas with 11.b5 to generate some kind of play.

Maybe that's an overreaction, and white needs to resign himself to defense at this point, I don't know.

And looking for improvement it seems shadowknight is right, white's problems started even earlier when he castled too early.  He really set an up hill battle for himself from the very beginning on this one.

Looking with my computer I'm surprised 9.c5 is good, and that white is still fine with 14.Qb3.  Seems white's spectacular suicide as played in the game caused me to overestimate the strength of black's attack.

Apparently white has plenty of time, and simply needed to keep pursuing his play.  The computer does like 11.b5

This post was necro'ed  from a couple years ago. I found the actual game PGN in his archive:

Keep in mind it was a CC game. I'd have been a lot more impressed if it were OTB.

Well maybe I'm missing something then... because after white's Kh1 and especially Ng1 black's moves are obvious enough that I'd expect to find nearly all of them myself in a 5 minute game, and certainly in a 15 minute game.

Also there's no risk... not only was black ahead in material with a massive attack, white is totally passive.  Black could have won a dozen different ways.  So again I have to think I'm missing something as 1-2 move tactics aren't particularly impressive.

I did not mean to imply it was a brilliant game either way. Rather I simply would have congratulated him for a good game he played if it had been over the board.

    Sorry, overreacting again Sealed

I'd tell anyone this was a good game... unless they bragged that it was an amazing game... in which case I'd try to take them down a notch Innocent

lol, I can retire from chess. It's so obnoxious, it's cute.

Edit: Now that I actually read his comment (I just saw the captial letters and the long list of moves), I see that he is quoting a master and merely asking us if he can retire from chess. Not that cute I guess.

Well, the "not as nice" part was pretty cute.
