I was lucky. But how much worse was my position before my opponent blundered?

My opponent, who was lesser rated and really made a fight of it, had me on the ropes. I knew I was worse, and then, he blundered and I back-ranked him.

Just how much worse was I? I know I had a small material advantage but I felt much worse. What would have been the best way to activate my bishop without hanging the rook or trading down? I was looking for a discovered attack on the queen with a bishop but that seemed like a long shot.

Think the advantage went back and forth in this game.  If not 24Rf1e4 , then white is probably winning 24Qb1ch secures backrank and black's queenside difficult to develop. Lots of strange moves earlier starting with 4..a6, 5BxN pxB 6Nxe5 looks likes wins a pawn for not much. Instead of 11f3 better Qd4. Didn't understand 14Qd2, not sure why misplaced rook with 15...Rb5 etc.

Yeah, 24. Qb1+ .... looks devastating.  I do not see how Black can defend against mate without giving away significant material in that position.

Wow. A BIG thank you to everyone who took the time to offer their analysis and/or insight. It is very much appreciated.

The idea of 15 RB5 was to try and entice a trade of queens to consolidate my material advantage. I saw I couldn't immediately play 15 QG5 because of the pawn fork which would force me to leave my queen hanging in bazaare fashion. It was a bad move, totally overlooking the in-between quiet move threatening mate. I felt terrible after that oversight. Funnily enough, he could have still played the pawn thrust, and then I would have been completely lost.

Doesn't 23. Qc2+ ... give Black the advantage after 23.... Bf5?

In your 1... f5 variation, wouldn't Black just take White's queen with 3.... Qxf5?

That's what I was hoping for. To bring my bishop out with tempo. I needed the enemy queen on a light square. That was my main hope before the blunder. It would have been a queen vs two rooks, but with my pawn advantage I could have won. A higher rated opponent using two rooks would be devastating against my single queen - I am not very good with queens.

Unless I am missing something, if 23. Qc2+ ... was played in the game, 23... Bf5 would eliminate White's checkmate threats and win Black material at the same time:

No, the best move for white would either be to take the bishop with the queen, when I take back he would take my rook, or the other thing I have listed below. Then it would either be two rooks vs a single queen or queen and rook vs queen and bishop. It's either that or lose a rook. I felt I could win vs two rooks and that was my hope.

So either way it would have been a small material advantage for black, but white would have the better pieces.
