The game started as a Ruy Lupez variant (I think)

It went well, and I had the queen trapped,

16. Qd4, I think was my losing move, I should have done Qa4, defending my bishop and attacking the rook.

After 17...Rxd6, I forgot about my knight, and blundered a piece away, which was another flaw I saw.

Then 19. Bd5 pinned my Queen, and I had no choice but to lose it for a bishop.

It was all downhill after that. Any suggestions? Im a new player, just recently started studying up in a few books, and I think I did pretty well against a higher ranked player.

you did well, but you should have cashed in your good position earlier. also, remember that when you are crushing someone (like you were), their best bet is to create lots of traps (like they did) so that you will get overconfident and not see those traps (like you did Wink).
