Here is a game from my local club championship. I was black. Later I will add some analysis. There were a lot of mistakes by both sides but as Tartakower once said "game is won by a player who makes a mistake next to last". My mistake was last... I was in time shortage. My quick chess skills are weaker than my classic chess level.

Bro... he did tried to create an isolated pawn and while your defending, he took charge of the open c-file.The position after 40 Kg2 is still a game. If 40...d4 41.ed4 Qd4 42.f5!? Qd2 and its a consolation of a draw or if 42. Qc7 Qd2 or 41.f5 gf5 42.Qf5 de3 or 41.Qe8 de3 42.Qe3 Qd3. But frankly speaking.. to last this long against a candidate master is a consolation itself.;)Wink

I am not much weaker I think. He is ~2100, I am ~1880 now. Also he is old man, 72 or 73 years old.

I am at work now (in office). When I come home today I will post some analysis and key moments as I think.

In opening would have prefered 5...Bh5, and after 5...BxN 6Bf3 e5 saving tempo on game, but these are minor improvements. Think would have preferred 13...a5, and a4 to follow instead of b5. Wondering about 23...d4 but this is probably worse than game after e4 with f4 to come.

Wow...its really something one should think about...lol. I've never beaten a 2100 before... the highest i've beaten is a 2000+. But a 2100 at 73? Wow... no offense bro... but this guy must have been a stronger player when he was your age (he enjoying life now Smile).Playing a strategical opening with an imbalanced position. Its either he has played his opening for a very long time already or you spend too much time thinking, that he was able to go for a slight edge. If you happen to have time please post your analysis and how you felt when you made moves on the crucial situations. The way I see it you were able to hold you own (im not trying to praise your play, its just my opinionSmile) .What I would like to see is how you played the remaining moves in time scamble were you believed you blundered and were you believed you played poorly.

Oops ... i noticed youre from Ukraine...one of the best producers of strong chess players.Wink

TwoMove

13... a5 14. Qc2 a4 15. cxd5 axb3 16. axb3 cxd5
and for example 17. Qxc8+ Rxc8 18. Rxc8+ Ne8 19. Ra1 is very hard to evaluate.

23... d4 24. Qa1 and white seems to hold and initiative - 24... Rd6 25. Rec1 Rad8... may be.

No, he was at maximum a Class A player (like me now) because he took a Candidate master at 72. I was personally present at this after-tournament award when he shooke the Candidate master norm. The referee (who was given awards and prizes) said to this man: "Where are you been when you was younger!))"

Except 11... c6 stronger was immediate 11... e4, exchanging on e4 and putting bishop on e5 in a more suitable condition.

32. f4!? Nc4! is much stronger((.

after this position (after 40. Kg2) I MUST play 40...d4 41. Qe8 Nd3 42. Qd7 Qxd7 43. Bd7 de 44. Kf3 e2 45. Kxe2 Nf1+

but I played something like 40... Qe7 or 40... Ne4. I don't have a notation of this stage of the game because I already had only 5 minutes left on the clock.

I agree you would have been better with 40...d4. Would like to see more analysis of this game, because play this line as black.
