I played this game, pretty successfully, seeing as I won ( because of time, but still ), but I think my opponent would of destroyed me, had he had more time. I think my mistake was played within the last few moves.

 


Please, only analyse moves 21 to 26. Pay particular attention to the moves 21 and 26, as that is where I think were the most important endgame decisions were made. I play as black !!

Looks to me like with 26... Re8 you're just gonna be two pawns up (due to that nasty little mate threat on e1).

I'm guessing you're playing white since it's black's turn to move and the game ended with white making the last move. Please provide more info.

 

 I like move 26. d6. It opens up an attack on the rook at a8.

 

I don't think 26. ... Re8 works, because after 27. Rxe8+ Bxe8 28. Qe2 threatens mate and gains a pawn by 29. dc

It's an equall possitional after 18 moves. With 19. e5? white lost a pawn. Black need to take it with 21... Rxe5. He lett it pass, and after 21... Ra8 white had an oportunity for 22. Rxa8  Rxa8 23. e6 Be8  (23... fe6?? 24. de6 with a double attack) and white has  an advantage. 22. Ra5 threat nothihg an black can take a pawn. 26.... Re8 isn't good, as Sunshiny said, but after 26... Ra3  black  will take a second pawn.

After 26. ... Ra3 i think white could play 27. Qb7 threatening mate. If black wants the pawn, black must take with the queen (27. ... Qxd6) and white will play 28. Qb8+ Qf8 29. Qxc7 taking back a pawn.

 

Black should still have good chances to win with the passed pawn.
