Interesting openingby white.  Never seen it before, don't know what the objectives are.

Anyway, I think white miscalculated on the exchanges starting on move 14.  They opened up the diagonals lasered right at white's king.  To be defended, white's king needed the center to be locked up.

I don't think you were lucky, per se, just you calculated more accurately.  Eg., on 16. ...Rxe4 you took white's queen out of play with a discovered check, and instead of mindlessly winning the queen your next move, you saw the mate and went for it.
