Any time you can shrug off the loss of a queen, the opponent does not stand well.

4... c6 is the book move. 4... Be7 is the 2nd most popular move in this situation, and White wins 81.1% of the games.

After move 16, black couldn't recover, but could postpone the mate for about 15 or so moves (that's with perfect play) with Be6. Anyways, sweet game =)

You comment that 5. ... Nxe5 would have been better. White still crushes this response with 6. Nxe5 dxe5 7. Qh5 with the threat of Qxf7 and Qxe5.

When you play 6. Nc3 you overlook 6. Qd5. This threatens Qxf7, which is very hard to meet. The only way to defend is 6. ... Bb4+ 7. c3 Qe7 and now white can take the bishop on b4.

Frankly, your comments in this game demonstrate that you approach chess in a poor way. You are constantly hoping for mistakes from your opponent rather than expecting them to play the best move available.

By the time you play 9. 0-0 black has overcome his early poor play and could have an equal game by castling. Instead black continues to walk right into it with Nxe4. Instead of 10. Qd5, 10. Bxf7+ Kxf7 and then Qd5 forking the king and knight regains your pawn and leaves the black king exposed. The way you played it, black has a chance to play 11. ... 0-0.

But your opponent continues to give you opportunities with 11. ... Nxe5.

I disagree. Philosophically, yes, we all realize that in order to win a chess game it requires mistakes by our opponent. But during the game, a good player does not hope the opponent's next move is a mistake. A good player always expects the opponent to make th best move available, and plans for that.

well, not every player can or is capable of answering the best move available properly.

not every player is a Loomis, there must be some defferences! don't u think?

but all in all I got ur point and I agree with u,let's say we all should be like what u said, but simply most of us (including myself! Wink) are not that strong!

It has nothing to do with how good of a player you are. The point is what you expect from your opponent. Very few people are able to determine what the best moves would be, I know I can't. But your results will be better if you expect your opponent to make good moves, rather than hoping they make what you know to be a mistake. You don't have to take my word for it, ask any good player.

How is black supposed to meet 6.Qd5? - looks like it wins on the spot

As for you initial question, the only defence I can see is 16...Nf7 idea 17.Bh6+ Kg8 to hold the position a little longer.

hicetnunc, I gave this line in my first post 6. Qd5 Bb4+ 7. c3 Qe7 8. cxb4 where white has won the bishop, a winning advantage.

16. ... Nf7 17. Bh6+ Kg8 18. Rad1 and it looks like black is toast with a rook coming to the back rank.

I read the other comments after posting - sorry Loomis for asking a question you had already answered Smile
