I played this game vs GM Stojanovic (2574) yesterday. I think I played a good game, but failed to win because I was low on time and made a horrible mistake - thus blundering back the material I had won earlier. Feel free to leave any comments.Smile

If i read the board correctly:  30 Rd2+ may have been better.  If he follows Ke1 the discovered check on Rc2 wins his queen.  If he follows Kf1 then Rd1 followed by Qe1#.

Indeed! I didn't have time to check that during the game. I only focused on the plan ...Qh1+ - Kg4 g6 - with the threat of Qh5#. Well spotted! Smile

Someone else recently posted about how winning because of time is a win and the guy who loses has no right to say, "oh come on I had a win if it wasn't for the clock" ... and yeah, okay, that's true, but still, looking at this game, how can anyone say anything other than:

"oh come on I had a win if it wasn't for the clock!!!!"

You played great until time pressure and the excitement of beating the pants off a GM got to you.

Really good job... and when you publish your memoirs just cut the game off at move 27... 0-1, and say that he resigned when you forked his rook, which a generous GM might have done.Wink

Unlucky, another 5 minutes on your clock and he was doomed.

He actually should have been doomed anyway but I guess you just panicked. Cool

Thx for the comments. This was my first OTB simul ever, and when I saw I was winning my heart started pounding like crazy. I bet that didn't help either.Tongue out I played him again yesterday, but made an error in the opening, and he never let me get into the game after that. Tonight is another chance (he plays three simuls during his stay here in Trondheim - prior to a tournament starting on saturday) - so I hope I at least will give him a match.

After the simul he will also give a lecture on the accelerated dragon, so that might be fun. Yesterday he lectured about Cambridge Springs - a solid opening with some venom. Fun stuff.Smile

How come you had a clock on a simul?

It was a clocksimul. Smile We could make a move when we were ready, not having to wait until he came to our board.

wow very good game man! I believe on move 31 after Kf1 you had a mating net with Qd1+ Kf2 Bxh4+ g3 or Bg3, either one and then Rd2 mate. But man, I know what its like playing in a simul and having all that pressure! But when I played against GM Charbonneau in a simul I was down a pawn. We know for sure you shouldve won that game but its still a huge accomplishment to be beating up a GM like that. keep it up bud! Great game to watch!
