I'd like to share a game with you that I played on this website recently. My opponent adopted a very defensive position and I tried to emulate it, even though I have no real experience of them. As you'll see, it all unravels for me rather quickly. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

h3 looks like a wasted move. I cannot see how...h5 is required, and it creates a weakness on g5. I would suggest ...e6 is better. Your not playing ...e6 timely was your major problem in the game. I don't think the bishop belongs on g7 here.

Your initial response to your opponent's Bird System/Dutch Variation opening was correct. Your opponent deviated from this opening with his third move d3 instead of e3. Your second move c5 was not as good as the recommended Bg4. Technically, when someone deviates from recommended opening lines, the other party, if knowledgeable about this opening, can take advantage of this. However, this is easier said than done! As you moved h5, g6, you created a pronounced weakness on the King's side allowing your opponent's two Knights to wreak havoc.

if u traded a knight u would have only been down 1 pawn material his pawn structure whould be distroyed which would have ruined alot of his defence and then your queen would check his king so he couldnt caslte and u would have pinned something to his king

i would say 11... Nd7 was your key mistake. you gave your oponent too much chances of taking initiative with that move. the idea of protecting the d4 square was ok, but the e4 square was much more in need of protection i think

Some thoughts on your game. I think you missed an opportunity or two as you were playing out of book and your opponent didn't change his theory accordingly. Specifically Qc2 pinning his Queen to his d pawn as he expected your Bishop to be on g4.
