This is a recent tournament game with a highly entertaining and instructive endgame with knight against the rook. See through the game and the annotations and please make comments if you find any gaps in the game. This is a nice lesson for beginners who usually go for the material value of pieces rather than getting a strong positional initiative. Enjoy.

Thanks shaxmat!

Nice lesson showing the power of the Knight in the end game.

Enjoyed your wry comments too!

and good use of the king, which i didn't realise could be used so effectively at the end of a game.

Very nicely played game and entertaining comments. The title is misleading, though, as it is not the knight that defied the rook, but a knight with the help of two connected passed pawns!

BTW

Unless you have a specific question (not 'comments appreciated'), games you win generally belong in the game showcase forum.
