Great sacrifice! You could have also continued with 26... Rxc3!, which I believe wins the game anyway, in the worst case (with White's best play) leaving you with a Queen and two pawns to a Rook, but the text move is immediately decisive, so I give it a !!

wouldnt 28.Rb1 save the game for white?

 Yes, there are a couple moves that avoid the mate, but leave white 2 pawns down in a losing endgame.
