4...a6 seems good to force white to trade the bishops and possibly the queens to equalize as black along with preparing queenside expansion with b5 at some point.
Maybe 8...e5 must be played to stop white from getting in e5 himself.
11...Be7 is a mistake, now white wins a piece as the knight has no retreat squares so maybe 11...g6 was necessary.
Just a few improvements which I see for black during the opening developments.
your opponent made some terrile mistakes, but as for your play, it was fine. There were only a few inaccuracies I could catch in a quick analysis. It was not ugly at all.
I woudn't call this game ugly. There were some mistakes, but rthere always are at our level. I think 11...dxe5 could well have been Blsck's best. Clearly, white should have played 13.Nc3 with a nice edge.
17.Re3 seems to be the mistake that changed a good Black game to a great one
When you say "ugly" are you referring to the pink board you played it on? Eww.
You like to play the Schevenigen, but when white gets some choice and by playing 2. c3 rules that out, you are now playing the Alapin. You should look into the varios second moves for white other than Nf3 if you want to play the Sicilian Defense.
After 12. ... 0-0 can white play 13. Nxd6 where now both your knights are attacked and undefended? I haven't looked at all the lines, maybe you have a trick that doesn't lose material there.
