Was This A Sound Win?

Here is a game I played and won today. I was thinking it's a 10 mins game. It was only when I suddenly saw myself at 3 minutes (around move 25), that I had a rude awakening that it was a 5 mins game with 2 moves per second. I then made very quick moves without much thinking. I was expecting to lose the game and just went with the flow (without any real strategy). Suddenly I saw my chance (it was a passed pawn that managed to run past all enemy infantry) and immediately formed my last-minute-saving strategy. Somehow it worked and my opponent resiged.

The question I want to ask is, was it my good game that won or his tragic mistakes?

I think you played well initially but time trouble caught on you. Move 32. d6 is a bad move.  You are just giving away the pawn for free.  I would have simply done Qxd6 and soon you will lose.  I would consider you lucky to win this game. So to answer you question it was his tragic mistake of doing  Qe3+ and not taking the free gift (pawn).

6.d5 is a bad move that weakens your central dark squares.  The only positive aspect of this move is that it wins a piece if you are playing a fish.  If you're interested in improving don't play moves like this.  6.Nc3 was the right move there.

@Jagdeep:

Yes I think exactly the same. I have a feeling he wanted to go for a check and was hoping to win my bishop. That's why he missed the very important Qxd6. After this I think I made no big blunders. I agree with you. It was my blunders versus his blunders. And as the saying goes, the winner in chess is the one who makes the second last mistake (the loser makes the last mistake :d)

@GreenCastle:

I agree that it weakens my center. I was playing for traps sake here. This time it worked :p If not, then I would have to exchange my center pawn for his c pawn sometime in the game (which would be materially ok, but positionally bad). Do you suggest playing for quick traps (like I do now) or going for the long run strategy?

JagdeepSingh

I suggest you dont go for cheap tricks.  Learn to play positionally, aggressively & defensively (this just helps you when you are playing these type of opponents).  You know in which category you are in.  Not asking you to change your style of play.  Just have a feel of it.

You need to have a long term strategy & a short term strategy as well (Its just like have a long term goal & short term goal) but no cheap traps.  Why no cheap traps?  It will just hurt you in the long run & maybe in that game itself.

BUT the most important part is to HAVE FUN!
