I was trying out a response to 1 d4 d5 called Blackmar-Diemer gambit wich I find a bit underrated. This is the result. Some of you might have seen my other post where I won a game against rybka. When this happened I started to wonder if there's something wrong with my copy of the engine.

You shouldnt be beating rybka ,since even most titled players cannot. There is definitely something wrong as you suspect.

No the game isn't over yet. I can post the whole game later when it's over.

Hmm

Some thoughts from Deep Junior :

12... Qxg2? { black survives with : 12... g3+  13. hxg3 Qh5 }

9 ... Nc6??

I think something is wrong with your engine :(

That sucks. I liked thinking that I could beat it.

I'm not sure 12. ..g3+ is better though. It saves the queen but pretty much lock black down and allow me to get some strong hits in on the black queen side.

12.. g3+ is better according to my computer but black is still losing . I think you should consider the fact that a GM was given an extra pawn and only managed to draw one game out of 3 that they played . In fact I don't any GM has won against it so far .

I wonder what I'm playing against then. I checked the rybka site and the options and stuff looks the same as in my engine. When you think about it though I guess it's pretty unlikely that I'd be able to beat rybka. The game ended in a draw btw if anyone cares.

it can be depending on your computer to give it access to more ram, had that problem with a chess program once, they make stupid moves because you strangle the access to the program brain basically.

You may want to post your games on the rybka forum and they will tell you if your version of the engine is okay :

I don't think rybka is in a bad position. If you count each sides material values they are about the same with white at 9 points for the queen, 5 points for the rook, 3 points for the bishop for a total of 17 points in minor/major pieces; black has 10 points for the two rooks and 6 points for the knight and bishop putting it at 16 points for its minor and major pieces.

Both sides has 6 pawns. Its pretty safe to say that whites pawn structure is riddled with weakness such as isolated pawns on the a, f, h files as well as doubled up pawns on the c3 file.  Blacks pawn structure seems pretty secure.

Perhaps Black's most significant advantage, if you can call it that at this early stage, is the fact that white's king is VERY open. Couple that with the fact that most of Black's material is minor pieces and major pieces less than a Queen it very may well mean a deadly fork, skewer or pin between the king and  Queen. Believe it or not, I think white is on the defense, trying to secure his king before he can capatalize on his slight material advantage. Considering that you are playing vs rybka which obviously excels at tactics you might be in a pickle :P

Sorry if I referred to you as a him, I just decided to use that pronoun. My apologies if you are female =)

Tell me if the rybka people have anything to say about this game.

I fired up my own engines, to see what would happen, and compared the results of Rybka vs Fritz vs Crafty vs Palm Hiarcs on Black's seventh move:

Rybka

Depth:1-11, Time:0-17s, Qd5 is its favorite

Depth:12+, Time:18s+, Be4 is its favorite

Fritz

Depth:1-13, Time:0s-500s, Qd5 is favorite.

Crafty

Depth:1-13, Time:0s-500s, Qd5 is favorite.

Palm Hiarcs

Depth:1-10, Time:0-500s, Qd5 is favorite

Is that the same behavior you are seeing? If so, I don't think anything is wrong with your copy. It's just one of those positions that's difficult for computers to analyze. At least Rybka gets it right... you just have to be patient.  :)

Rybka scores +39, -2, =9 against Deep Junior on an equal system according to the CCRL 40/40, so the engines should frequently disagree.  ;)

(2.20) 12...Qxg2 13.Kxg2 gxf3+ 14.Kxf3 O-O-O

(3.15) 12...g3+ 13.hxg3 Qh5 14.Nh4 Qg4 15.Qb5 O-O-O 16.Rb1
