White's advantage faded away - blitz

This is a 5-min OTB game I played. At some point I felt that I had a huge advantage in piece activity, but being in time-trouble (typical of 5-min blitz) I couldn't find the correct plan and eventually blundered.

It's also possible that I simplified too much too early, but I'll let you be the judge of that:

What would be the most accurate plan for white after 14. Rhe1 Ng6    ?

i don't see why you didn't take the free piece after 8... Nxe4.

and personally i probably would've castled the other way.. especially with the pawn missing in the c file.. you could've also protected your g pawn instead of capturing one of his on 21.. aside from that, maybe you should've waited a bit longer before trading off all the pieces in play

    It's not a "free piece", for after 9. Nxe4, 9...d5 gets the piece back, although 9. Nxe4 d5 10. Qe2 might've been a better move order.

    Also possible is 9. Bxf7+ Kxf7 10. Nxe4 Re8 11. Ne5+ (or 11. Qb3+ d5 12. Ne5+ Nxe5 13. Rxe5) 11. ... Nxe5 12. dxe5 Rxe5, with interesting options but dropping a pawn.

As to the castling thing, it's absolutely debatable, but the discussion is that after 13. O-O I still have to activate both my rooks.

First of all I wouldn`t have castled! I would go for Ke2, Rhe1 and Rac1, hitting the pawns (the king is a little closer to the center, both rooks get open files and the pawn on d4 can always be defended by Kc3 or something like that.

As for the plan, I like 15. Ng5, threatening Nxf7 and Re8+ ideas...

    Here are some lines:

    15. ... Nh8 (terrible, I know) 16. Re7 with Rde1 to follow

    15. ... Be6 16. Nxe6 (not 16. Bxe6 fxe6 17. Nxe6 Rxf2) fxe6 17. Bxe6+ followed by f3

If black just waits, say with 15. ... h6,  16. Nxf7 then if

    I) 16. ... Rxf7 17. Re8+ Nf8 18. Rd8 followed by Re1 and Ree8, or just Bxf7 if the king moves. The bishop won`t come out  for a while (unless he goes for b6 and Bb7, trading rooks) and I think white is better.

    II) 16. ... Nh8?? 17. Nh6#

I have calculated the lines above with my head, so I dont know if I made any mistakes. Anywhay, that`s the plan I would have chosen. :)

In the position on move 17, white does not really have weaknesses to attack (in fact, it's possible d4 could be weak) because of the blocking d7 bishop, so right now the 7th rank isn't so strong. The plan of pushing the the d pawn to open the file is one try, but for that to mean anything a rook will have to be on the d file and that means black can then challenge the e file. . Like some have mentioned, Ng5! is a better way to take advantage of your pieces, as here (this blockade with a bishop on d7 is rare though) the 7th rank just doesn't seem to be enough because of this strange blockade. That must have been annoying to play in blitz especially, not having any breakthrough which you're supposed to have!
