Women's European Championships Plovdiv Bulgaria. Round 10 of 11.

Time for the games is 90 mins then at move 40 add 30 mins plus add 30 seconds for each move from move one.
Games begin at 12:30 BST.
All the live games can be seen here

http://www.eicc2008.com/en/

There are 5 leaders on 7.0, 5 on 6.5 and our own Yelena Dembo plus 11 others on 6.0.
Today Yelena on board 10 plays with black against Sopio Nikoladze.
With just 1 more rounds to play after today Yelena needs a win to keep her in contention for a top place.

As in yesterdays relay the board here will be updated every 15/20 mins depending on speed of play and reliability of feed from Plovdiv.

Cheers :)

Kings Indian fianchetto..I hardly ever play kings indian myself. I reckon she will need to take the inititive away from her opponent as soon as possible.

I think their rating numbers are a sign... not sure what of but its a bit funky ;)

the leaders on boards 1 & 2 have agreed quick draws in 6 and 12 moves.

obviously saving the real game for the final day

I think Qd2 was preferable as it keeps the Q in the game. all she could do from b3 would be pawn pinching on b7.

I thought she might play 3....d5 and follow the Grunfeld line -- could be her opponent expected to same and had worked on a way to exploit the variations.  It seems a curved track now.

the opening stats for blacks move 3 show d5 with a higher percentage of draws than Bg7. And Yelena must win today and tomorrow to be anywhere in this tournament.

Qd2 would have kept pressure on Yelena's King side as well.  Perhaps taking out the black bishop on the long diagonal.

What little I know but you would think black would move a rook to c8.

Seems to me white could exploit the c file otherwise.

 Right piece wrong file. Smile

black is aiming at the back pawn on the e file.

Looks promising for Yelena now, with black king exposed. Wondering if 36... Rc8

37.Qxn rc2 is possible since white has no more checks after Qd8+Kf7?

Bye  John S
