Women's European Championships Plovdiv Bulgaria. Round 11 of 11.

Time for the games is 90 mins then at move 40 add 30 mins plus add 30 seconds for each move from move one.
Games begin at 12:30 BST.
All the live games can be seen here

http://www.eicc2008.com/en/

There is 1 leader on 8.0, 4 on 7.5 and our own Yelena Dembo plus 7 others on 7.0.
Today Yelena on board 7 plays with white against Zhaoquin Peng.
If the leader loses and the 4 on 7.5 draw then a win by Yelena would put her in a play off for first place. Well you have to dream dont you? Laughing
But more important as can be seen from SonofPearl's daily news report is that the top 14 places qualify for the next women's world champs.

As in yesterdays relay the board here will be updated every 15/20 mins depending on speed of play and reliability of feed from Plovdiv.

They are both strong tacticians, so I expect a big fight - or a quick draw - depends on their tie-break actually...Smile

looks like Yelena is happy with a draw : she chose a risk-free variation

She likely wants to avoid a loss, which would surely keep her out of the top 14.

it protects the b2 pawn so that if the N has to move then black cannot play Bxb2 winning a pawn.

It protects the b2 pawn, thereby freeing the knight to walk around a bit.

EDIT:  Jinx!  You owe me a coke, Gent.

Oh, perhaps Jinx is regional.  When I was growing up, one could call Jinx if he and another said the same thing simultaneously, and the other kid was then indebted to him to the tune of a Coke.

When I was a kid we took it to a whole another level. If you both said "Jinx" at the same time then you would shout "double Jinx" and if needed triple and well you get the idea.

ok hope you have long arms to collect Smile

Sadly the board update wizard has been non-functional for an hour now and i see no point in a relay without updated boards.

so i think it is time to call it a day.

Yelena involved in play offs for silver and bronze medals. Unfortunately lost first game, and second does not look so good. Oh well was equal second in the proper tournament...

Yelena only drew her second game, so she lost her tie-break match.
