By Wednesday i will know who my 2nd rd opponent is
Yet another "My tournament"thread
Very amusing annotations from moves 7 to 9. Care to explain those?
9...Be6 for instance preserves the balance pretty well, and your h3 pawn may be the future target of a ...Bxh3 sac.
12...Nxf3+ 13. Qxf3 is not "1-0" territory yet, although white does have an edge. 13...Kh7 and then just giving up a pawn, placing the rook on g8/h8 for counterplay/defence can keep the game going quite a while, although black has severe difficulties in playing to equalise.
After 15. Qxh6 black's dead, as 15...Bh7 16. Bxf6. Oh, and 21. Qg6+ Kh8 22. Qh7# mates a move faster.
You won very fast, how many rounds is your tournament?
The tourney is 7 rounds and there is a round every sunday except the first sunday of october.

9...Be6 is close to equal, but black loses the bishop pair so no Bxh3 sac.
Doesn't 13.Qxf3 pick up a pawn and isolate black's pawns?
13...Kh7 is good but white is clearly better.
I saw that variation in my head as 15.Qxh6 1-0.
PS: I actually saw Qg6+ Kh8 Qh7# during my calculations for 20...Nd8. I only saw it again after i had played Bxf7+. Fortunately, mate is mate.
I am not going to be playing beginners however so I believe the next games should be very interesting. I am currently waiting for the 1st round's final game to be played in Wednesday, and then i will now my 2nd round opponent (probably with black)

lol that was only a first round game, didnt you know that everyone gets paired with lowbs in the first round?
By the way, here is the link to the chess-results page of the (pretty small) tournament:
http://www.chess-results.com/tnr109375.aspx?art=2&rd=1&lan=1&wi=821
Can a pairing expert or strong player tell me:
1) who i am going to play in the next few rounds
2) what chance do i have to finish in the top 3
Scottrf mentioned that this is not a trap Dpes that "trap" have a name? it occurs in many beginners games.
Not really, it is not a trap. Black should have played Be6 at some point and he is not worse. If I were to mark a black move as dubious it would be 5...O-O not 6...d6, 5...d6 was preferable. After 6. Bg5 h6 7. Bh4 (7. Bxf6 Qxf6 8. Nd5 is a better idea) 7...g5 can be played. 6. O-O Bg4 7. Bg5 Nd4 8. Nd5 Nxf3+ Black lands first, and lands a harder punch.
5...d6 was indeed a good move.
As Remellion mentioned 9...Be6 is close to equal
What about the other questions?
1)Does the link work?
2)Who am I going to play in the next few rounds
3)What chance do I have to finish in the top 3-4?
1) Link works.
2) No clue. My guess is Azadelis.
3) Aim not for the prize but for the bullseyes. Meaning, just focus on each game as it comes.
