I won this game after my partner played an outright losing move. Did he have better defences than 17. Bd4??

I haven't worked through it yet, but the pawn sacrifice 17. g4 could be interesting.

A very good game though!

Well, 17. g4 led to an immediate mate 17... Qxb2#. While 16.g4 was indeed interesting.

actually 11.Nxd5 is a bad move, as it gets the queen out.. the theory is 11.Nxc6 bxc6 and here there are two options, if white grabs the pawn 12.Nxd5 cxd5 13.Qxd5 Qc7 and here white can choose if to take the rook and get two rooks for a queen after Bf5 or to play Qc5 and give the pawn back with a bad king position.. and as my couch like to say: here the theory only begins

but in the variation played after 17.c3 black has a good position with a nice advantage after Rac8
