This is a game against a high rated opponent (2528). I decided to play the hippopotamus with colours reversed (the albino hippo) and seemed relatively equal until move 30 where i reached a position where I could not make any progress.

Any analysis to see where i went wrong would be very helpful. Especially how I could of improved my bishops passive nature compared to my opponents well placed knight.

    comments appreciated.

Why did you resign?  You could have traded pawn and gotten that bishop loose I think.  You should have played on a little longer to find out anyway.  Unless I am missing something.

yeah im going to have to lose the exchange after kh1, ra2, rxa4, nf4.

after nf4 he is going to pin my bishop infront of my king and then simply take it, or i will be forced to trade my rook on a4 for his knight on f4. undoubling his pawns, losing the exchange and the game.

    Dear James, I think that  You should try to activate Your "BAD" Bishop: 38. Rc6 Rexd5 39. Rxd5 Rxd5 40. f4  Rd1+ 41.Kf2 gxf4 42. Be4 Rd2+ 43. Ke1 Kh7 44. Bxg6+ Kg7 45. Bc2 Rh2  46. Rxc7+ Kf6, etc.  In endgames activity of pieces seems to have a priority over material balance... Alex

thanks, I can't say i didn't confsider playing f4 at one point or another, I simply didn't like the variations I calculated after playing it. I do think that with further analysis, that f4 would have been better, although I do not think this would allow me to hold on to a draw.

And "in endgames activity of pieces seems to have priority over material balance" - that phrase is completly new to me, so thankyou very much for that piece of advice :).

    James.

According to the chess.com analysis, the computer suggested placing my bishop on d2 rather than b2 on move 25.
