A recent game of mine in the Ruy Lopez where I encountered an early Queen sacrifice with forced checkmate in two that my opponent sadly overlooked.

Hope you all enjoy!, Feel free to post your ideas and comments.Laughing

Yeah, but what would have happened had s/he taken with the knight first? No mate and you are down a whole lot of material.

I believe if black were to play 9...Nxd4 rather that 9...Bxd4 (which is what I think you are reffering to) then I would play 10.Bxe7.  This creates a whole new list of problems for black.  Equal in material though black is weak in position.

Yeah, that's true. Shows you what poor development does to Black - after 10 moves, being unable to castle - that's something.

If black play 9. .. Nxd4 and white play Bxe7 black ends up losing the queen and taking the bishop and knight. At least I couldn't find any sane way to prevent losing the queen in that position. Very nice.

nice  move but it was risky if he attacked your kight xd4  then your kill it with your queen the bishop would have no protection black would kill it and lose no material

There is I believe a name for this mating pattern, but I can't think of it

kill it??? in chess a piece is captured, not killed.  And as I stated before, if black were to play 9...Nxd4 the I would not take with the queen!?!?, I would play 10.Bxe7 and black is in trouble.

you are lucky you opponent hadn't seen you comming. nevertheless, you took good advantage of his mistake...

How was he lucky?  He still had a better game if the opponent dodged the mate.  This was played skillfully, and luck was not involved.

I think if Nxd4 then Bf6 2. Bxf6(forced) Nxf6!(i dont know the symbol for check?    3. Kf8 Qxd4  at which point you are threatening the rook on h8 by a check on d7 with the knight.

Also possible is 1. Nxd4 Bxd7! 2. Kxd7 (if Qxd7 then Bxf6 3. BxF6 Nxf6! also putting Queen in check!) same sequence as if queen took the bishop but the king will be exposed or on 3. Bxe7 Qc8 4. Bf6 Bxf6 5. Nxf6! Kd8 6. Qxd4 putting you up a piece in all situations and in a good aggressive position.

There are a lot of options here and black is just in a bad position.  White definately has tempo here.  Sorry if that was hard to understand.

+ is the symbol for check, and a piece can also be "eaten" (my favorite :P)

    Nice job though, interesting mate.
