I played a 5 minute game as White. I was winning easily when, on move 25, I blundered away my important Bishop. I was already in time trouble too and paused when he took my Bishop because it came as a kind of shock since I was thinking it was protected. My moves from there on had to be made very fast. I did win, thought with only 1 second to spare, my opponent had 48 seconds. All I could say was ,"Whew!"
I think you had a checkmate on move 36 with Qb5...?
Great game...5 minutes is sooo short.
Sure did. I was probably down to 20 secs on the clock by then. Time can kill you in many ways in blitz.
I know, I couldn't do it...it was a great game.
Until I lost my poor Bishop! :-D
sacrifice is part of a bishop's life...
Well, he needs to be a bit more cicumspect about it!
I played a second game in which I blundered (of course) but still won, though in this game, I was the one with the time advantage.
As soon as I moved 17. Ne5, I saw my Queen was in trouble and that I should have moved Qa4 so I could move her to b3 and continue to protect my Knight. So, I blundered away my Knight, and though I was really equal in material, I was annoyed at missing that. My entire strategy from that point on was to harass him into an inferior position, if possible. Fortunately for me, he cooperated!
I just now played 2 KGAs back to back. It's interesting how quickly Black can lose. This isn't to say the the KGA is all that, but that Black- in this case both players had a rating relatively equal to mine- can go wrong very quickly.
These were both 5/0 time controls:
Durn... a third KGA, this time a type of Muzio which I played loosely but was rewarded with quick win.
Thats a cool game well done, good to see kings gambit player, makes for great games that does, I often play it also, you get to attack the king straight out from the start effectively, good fun.
Nice games, batgirl. You are truly a master of the King's Gambit :)
I'm hardly a master of anything, but I do like to play the King's Gambit.
I played 4 KGAs out of the six 5/0 games I've played in the last hour. Here's the fourth. Again a quick win due to Black's inability to cope more than for any great play on my part.
Blacks mistake in the 13 move, muzio gambit one, is to think he has time for the slow developing move b6, but well spotted with the attacking response of Bxf7+.
Good games, I think I can learn a few tactics to try from these.
Yeah, I thought b6 was completely out of place in this opening. But the double Muzio is crazy. Black had just gotten a piece for a pawn. I don't think he expected that sacrifice, because he hesitated for a bit before taking it, but I'm sure he didn't expect the second one.
yes, its an opening that defies logic really, yet it is a justified opening, and even against strong play it is dangerous.
Well, unlike the Muzio, the Double Muzio is a bust under normal lines. I think his 7...b6 gave me enough leeway to go for it, particularly in blitz. But also in blitz, such things are split-second decisions, so they have to feel good too.
I see, thats what you mean by double muzio, thats a new one to me. I can see why b6 would give you the incentive to go for it as it suggests a black player who does not know what is about to hit him. Well done in those games, keep up the good work with the kings gambit. :)
I had made a three part exploration of the Muzio, mostly historically and staticically, if that interests you.
