Well done.  It's funny, i just started looking at some philidor lines and i haven't seen Qf6 yet.

As demonstrated by the hero in the game, that's because it's pretty bad.

Well played to take advantage of huge development!

the position at move 19 is pretty - white's pieces are either traded off or menacingly developed, while black still hasn't touched a single queenside piece.

Another gg that i feel like annoting :) one question tho, what was your opponent's rating? He/she didn't play above a 1300 level at any point in the game...

"traffic jam on kingside" - accurate description of the undeveloped kingside.

my opponent's rating was 1560 or so - I won't say he or she is bad, but just the move 3. Qf6 didn't give him a good chance to stay in the game.

19. Nxf7 would have won, as general notes in his annotations.

I appreciate that black didn't resign because It allowed me a nice finish.

thanks for the annotations general!

This game was very nice and I do see similarities to Morphy's style.  I would agree the level of competition in the opening wasn't amazing, but consider many of Morphy's miniatures and you could make the same argument about his competition.

20. Qe8! is a hard one to find. The mating net is pretty and precise.

the alternate move list after 4... Nc6 is fine for black - white might proceed Nc3, Be3, Qd2 and queenside castling.

15. e5, the move I played is very important. I remember spending minutes on 14. Rxf6 trying to find a continuation. after I found e5, everything came easy because I knew that everything comes with tempo.

thanks immortal!
