This is a great game illustrating the most crucial thing about chess: PROTECT YOUR KING!
Time controls: 10 min blitz
Good job spotting the nice mating combo, very nice. White seemed pretty much doomed though once he spoiled his opportunity to castle. But I agree, always protect your king and generally don't mess with the g-pawn unless you're absolutely sure you can/are going to queenside castle.
Thanks Knightmare.
I ran this through Rybka and it went Ke2 as well - so I suppose I can't argue with his 7th move.
why would he sarifice his bishop at twelve?
He probably saw the f2+ which would result in a lost bishop and rook. I don't think there is a way to salvation in this position though.
thanks for the lesson, I enjoyed it.
Given what happens in the next few moves, you can read white's thoughts on move 4. They go something like that "I'm afraid of that bishop. I can attack it with a pawn by playing g4, but first I have to make sure this pawn is protected. I can do that by putting a pawn on h3."
Of course, these thoughts are not productive to winning a chess game. White should be thinking about developing his pieces, not using 2 tempo to attack a bishop for no reason -- In fact, all white did was expose his own rook!
i did too! :P
